“We should also collect a bit more…qualitative [measures]. For example, we should also have a little bit of a log into what the experiences are from users so we can really have a sense of what’s on their minds. What are they really adopting? What are they finding useful, and what are they not finding useful? So, it’s not just about the numbers.” (6:09)
“I think we need kind of a step-to-step solution…so that we all use the right BI solution to ease our work — and not just the c-level, but the guy that provides the reports, the admin that’s going to configure the users, give the rights, give the right permissions. So I think that goes along with not just [being] about the objectives, but how is the system going to be working, and how is the system going to be governed.” (14:50)
“I’m a huge Rush fan, and there’s a song called ‘Tom Sawyer.’ And there’s a phrase that says, ‘he knows changes aren’t permanent, but change is.’ And I think that this is the case with BI and many other areas of software. I think we should take into account that success is changing over time.” (15:52)
“I tend to think that every enterprise software project is not necessarily a project. It has become more an initiative. And I change the word to ‘initiative’ because it’s kind of a permanent thing, right? So the systems evolve, we evolve with the systems, and the employee is evolving with the system. So we all need to look for that evolution and try to adjust consequently.” (16:30)
“I think, like every product, you need internal promotion of the system. And permanent promotion.” (19:26)
“I read a really nice article with Bill Inmon about how, in technology, we always want to replace everything old for everything new while, in other sciences, what we do is we stay with the old and we build on top of it So I think we need to do that a little bit more.” (24:16)
Jorge García is the principal analyst of business intelligence (BI) and data management at TEC. He has more than 20 years of experience in all phases of application development and database and data warehouse (DWH) design, as well as 9 years in project management, covering best practices and new technologies in the BI and DWH space.
Prior to joining TEC, García was a senior project manager and senior analyst developing BI, DWH, and data integration applications with Oracle, SAP Business Objects, and data integration. He has also worked on projects related to the implementation of BI solutions for the private sector, including the banking and services sectors. He has had the opportunity to work with some of the most important BI and DWH tools on the market.
